Proper pruning promotes plants health as well as enhances the beauty of almost any landscape tree and shrub.
Pruning is a practice that is frequently misunderstood and incorrectly practiced. Many times gardeners wait until a plant has out-grown its intended space before pruning or incorrectly view pruning as an annual sprint ritual that must be done.
At CA Construction we view pruning as a regular part of maintenance rather than as a remedial correction of neglected problems. We consider the reasons or purposes before any cutting begins. When we prune to maintain plant health we eliminate dead, dying, or diseased wood. A dying branch or stub can be an entry point for insects or diseases that could spread to other parts of the plant.
Pruning can enhance the flowering display of some plants. As a plant matures it produces more but often smaller flowers. Pruning reduces the amount of wood and so diverts energy into the production of fewer but larger flowers. For example, pruning-off faded flower clusters of Crapemyrtle will stimulate the production of new flower buds and a second round of color.
